Privacy Policy — Mileage Tracker

Mileage Tracker (“the app”) is developed by Debdip Bhanja Chowdhury (“we”, “us”, “our”). This page explains what data the app collects, how it’s used, and your choices — in plain language, matching exactly what the app does in its current version.
Short version
Mileage Tracker stores all of your fill-up records, vehicle info, and odometer photos only on your own device. Nothing is sent to us or to any server we run. The app has no ad network, no analytics SDK, no user accounts, and no sign-in. The only data that can leave your device is a CSV export or a shared photo — and only when you explicitly choose to share it.

We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or any other personal information through the app. We do not operate any backend server, so there is nowhere for this data to be sent even if the app wanted to send it.
2. Camera permission and odometer photos
If you use the odometer camera-scan feature, the app asks for camera permission and takes a photo of your dashboard. That photo:
- Is saved only in the app’s private storage on your device.
- Is analyzed on-device using Google’s ML Kit text recognition to read the digits and fill in the odometer field automatically.
- Is never uploaded to us, and the recognized text is not sent to any server we control.
Text recognition runs locally on your device. Depending on your device, Google Play services may download the recognition model itself the first time the feature is used, in the same way it would for any app using this Android system component — this is Google Play services behavior, not something this app initiates separately. Your photo is not part of that download exchange.
You can deny or later revoke camera permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Mileage Tracker → Permissions. The rest of the app (manually typing an odometer reading) works with no camera permission at all.
3. Data sharing and export
The app can export your fill-up history as a CSV file and hand it to Android’s standard share sheet. What happens after that is entirely your choice and is governed by the privacy policy of whichever app you pick (Gmail, Google Drive, WhatsApp, etc.) — we have no visibility into or control over that step.
4. Third-party services
The app uses the following components, both of which run on-device:
- Android Jetpack (Room, DataStore) — for local storage only; nothing is transmitted.
- Google ML Kit Text Recognition — for on-device odometer OCR, as described in Section 2.
We do not integrate any advertising SDK, analytics SDK, crash-reporting SDK, or social login. If that ever changes in a future version, this policy will be updated accordingly before the change ships.
5. Data retention and deletion
All app data lives in the app’s local storage on your device. You can delete it at any time by:
- Deleting individual fill-up entries or odometer photos inside the app, or
- Clearing the app’s storage/cache via Android Settings → Apps → Mileage Tracker → Storage, or
- Uninstalling the app, which removes all associated local data.
Because nothing is stored on a server we control, there is no separate “delete my account” step needed — uninstalling the app deletes everything.
6. Children’s privacy
The app is a general-purpose vehicle mileage/fuel log and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, regardless of age, since it collects no personal information at all.
7. Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change (for example, if a future version adds cloud sync or analytics), this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date above will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s Play Store release notes.
